Today, we are excited to announce that Intelligent Energy has developed a prototype of a hydrogen fuel cell powered range extender for drones, which will be unveiled at CES 2016. The range extender offers longer flight time and fast re-fuelling capabilities, addressing two of the biggest challenges for manufacturers of battery-powered drones.
Pair, match, combine, mate, couple – no matter what you call it, some things just go better together. When you look back in time, the greatest and most world-changing stories tend to include pairs.
When global crises erupt - whether they are natural disasters, riots or the Ebola outbreak - we tend to immediately think big picture solutions. How will governments react? What policies and NGO’s will save the day?
But what if the solution were smaller and less centralised? In fact, new research shows that the data collected by mobile phones could be the fastest, easiest and best way to respond to crisis situations. Because we carry them everywhere, mobiles are the simplest way to track population movement and physical trends in social networks.
“Using hydrogen as opposed to batteries allows you to maximise on your renewable energy. There is no limit to how much hydrogen you can produce and store.”
What is the future of power and connectivity in India?
The world has gone mobile. As mobility and connectivity increasingly become synonymous with economic success, connecting the offline world is increasingly important.

If you’re reading this stateside, did you know that today is actually one of the country’s newest holidays? It’s National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day, an occasion we’re pretty excited to celebrate and share here at Intelligent Energy. The Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Energy Association collaborated with the U.S. Senate to officially mark off October 8, so chosen because the date represents hydrogen’s atomic weight of 1.008.
The ‘chicken and egg’ debate is common when discussing hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs), what does come first: the refuelling infrastructure or fuel cell vehicles? Last week Intelligent Energy attended the opening of the first public hydrogen fuel station close to the M1. Owned and operated by ITM Power, the station produces its own hydrogen on-site via a wind turbine – and is a sign that both ‘chicken’ and ‘egg’ are developing together, and with good pace.
There are now fewer than 100 days to go until the 2015 Paris Climate Conference. COP21, as it is known, will aim to achieve a legally binding and universal climate agreement, with the aim of keeping global warming below 2°C.
Around the globe, our relationship to energy has hit a tipping point. Both consumers and governing bodies recognize that halting emissions and relieving dependence on fossil fuels is of the utmost importance.
Staying charged is a constant battle. It requires forward thinking and planning: do I have a cable? Will I need an adapter?
